Talk About Olympics, You Sky Pilots

To the Good Women of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver:
the Princesses of Pigeon Park

It is my honor to welcome your group and each Member of the powerful Womens Centre, to the growing demonstration of the wide ranging Coalition of Interests, who rely on and support this EMAIL SITE, and in the interest of open politics, I encourage you to browse sites and refer you to other sites where positions of a particular group, or Individual, can be found.

My own position as Chief Kitsilano is available at http://thekitsilanoband.blogspot.com/2009/12/olympic-ultimatum.html

There is a policy on this email site, of not being confrontational, and of being very polite with protocols, and of not publishing issues that do not impact the whole Coalition, allowing them to proceed off this site, and I helped develop that general rule, so of course I support the intention of the rule, but wish to take this opportunity, while welcoming your group, of clarifying the rank of importance guiding topics and claims that should be allowed to run the gamut of open discourse.

PLEASE NOTICE THE FOLLOWING REPEATS FACTS NOT PERMITTED TO CONTINUE HERE, ONLY FOR ILLUSTRATION OF THE GOALS BEHIND MY PARTICIPATION IN THIS COALITION. A GENERAL DISCUSSION CAN CONTINUE ON MY WEBSITE, BUT MY BEST USE OF THIS EMAIL LIST REQUIRES THAT I CANVASS OTHER MEMBERS THROUGH THIS EMAIL LIST.

I paraphrase my experience of the Eagle/Morgan episode: ESV appeared on the website and challenged the ORN, related to Childcare in a church. including a disrespectful juxtaposition of (Chief) "Kitsilano ... not the Chief Capilano ..." to which I
replied predicting the breach of protocols would compound the problems, which has come to pass. The email record shows I introduced myself in detail during that discussion. ESV was impolite and threatening and ended up injured, which point I stress to this Coalition, WE DO NOT NEED TO BE ANGRY; HOWITSUM ALAKIT, Iis a way of say Love your neighbor.

Well no news is not news in the DTES, so the whole drama including shattered ribs, is part of the history of this email site.

It should also be widely known that Chief Kitsilano holds Title to the very land in issue. I hold that Title.

All that Title and claim imposes on anyone is simple recognition and affirmation, with all good intentions welcome.

This Olympic Games is just one part of a big period of Human history, a period that is clearly waning out of useful existence, so we must reflect carefully on our position for, or against, the whole Event, including the holidays many people hope to enjoy in my City. Just like the Games Organizers, most of the Members of the Coalition have done their homework and are committed to their declared actions, which are based on equally carefully chosen principles. I would suggest that all of the other groups and people who have made this solemn decision to protest, came to their conclusions based on higher education and more advanced work records, than Individuals in the DTES, so they should not hesitate to use this quiet time before the Games, to fill in blanks in their claims and their grievances, so we can understand how to uphold them in their claims. A short essay more closely defining things like "unceded land" and Salish Territory, especially addressed to the owner, Chief Kitsilano, are welcome, since I already do have very concise ideas about what the world will look like in the future under Potlatch.

Now I already said a mouthful, but my point is, there is a duty inherent in freedom of speech, to speak the truth, and never suppress it without good cause. I believe my Title and my claim should be accorded from this Coalition what a judge may well do in a few weeks or months, granting to me the very "recognition and affirmation" promised by and guaranteed in the Constitution of Canada. This is as real a topic as that which was "dismissed" for interfering with the process of the Protest; but is it not of the highest level of importance?

Ladies; my friends; Coalition Members: Spartucus earned crucifixion for his followers, so let us be wiser than those Slaves, and mount the Truth in this Action.

It is very simple to understand, and simple to say, This land belongs to Chief Kitsilano!

My actions coordinate with yours' and Heaven provides the music.

The Market collapses and the Story continues, happily.

Most sincerely, I remain your
Chief Kitsilano

Hi folks,

I had to do some major revisions after the last communication from Muriel. So while I took into account everyone's feedback around wording, endorsements, etc. the chunk in the middle had to be changed. We can leave it for discussion at this week's meeting, but anyway, this is just what I came up with today.

Love,
Cynthia

Vancouver City Council

453 West 12th Avenue

Vancouver, BC V5Y 1V4

Dear City Councillors,

The 2010 Welcoming Committee requests your support for the exercise of our democratic rights during the Olympics. We are a diverse coalition of groups and individuals who share concerns over the adverse impacts of the Olympics on this city and province, including threats to our basic civil liberties and free speech. We are organizing a rally and march on February 12, 2010 to parallel the opening ceremonies and arrival of the Olympic torch.

We plan to use the Vancouver Art Gallery's northern plaza - a well known, traditional protest venue - as a space for gathering. Both the Olympic Civil Liberties Advisory Committee and the Vancouver Police Department have recommended that traditional areas of protest be kept open during the Games. We have not been able to obtain formal approval to use the space from the City's special events office. According to the office, formal approval is being withheld to ensure that the northern plaza remains accessible as there are multiple events already approved for the area. The office also assures us that there is plenty of space for public gatherings. This seems inconsistent: if other events were approved and there is space remaining, why not just approve us? Giving us formal approval would also seem to facilitate access to the plaza for people who are coming to attend the rally. In addition, the office has declined to issue a permit for our march, but passed along our application to the Vancouver Police Department anyway. Normally, the VPD supervises only temporary road closures that have been approved by the office. This development is worrisome, because without approval from the City, the police could simply terminate the rally and/or march.

We have been public and transparent in our organizing efforts, and are doing everything we can from our end to ensure the safety of everyone who participates. The 2010 Welcoming Committee is endorsed by the Alliance for People's Health, Anti-Poverty Committee, Bridgeview Community Action Group, Bus Riders' Union, Citywide Housing Coalition, Delta/Richmond Council of Canadians, East Van Abolitionists, Food not Bombs - Vancouver, GatewaySucks.org, No 2010 Victoria, No One Is Illegal - Vancouver, Olympic Resistance Network, Pink Resistance, Poverty Olympics, Social Justice Centre - UBC, StopWar.ca, Streams of Justice, Student Christian Movement - UBC, subMedia, VAN.ACT!, Vancouver Status of Women, and Work Less Party.

We maintain that it is the responsibility of the City to ensure that the public can access and use traditional protest venues under whatever exceptional circumstances. The public has a right to consider alternative viewpoints about the Games other than what is represented by corporate media. The public also has the right to participate in collective political action in criticism of the Games.

We request that you use your elected offices to ensure that people with dissenting views about the Olympics can exercise our democratic rights. Please voice and/or put in writing to the City your support for us getting formal approval to rally at the Vancouver Art Gallery's northern plaza and proceed with the march.

We thank you for your consideration and invite any questions to be directed to XXXXX.

Respectfully,
The 2010 Welcoming Committee
